Question
i'm trying to uninstall icq but it says the install file islocked or something i cant even get the original message because now its just going back to the why are u not satisfied help me get this thing off.

Answer
Hi,

I tried uninstalling as to see more clearly what you meant and got similar results: I wasn't able to uninstall it either.

Well, after several attempts and three different solutions I did. I went into my ICQ Program File folder (C:\ICQ or C:\Program Files\ICQ or something of the such) and ran UNWISE32.EXE, it asked for the Installation Log File, which I couldn't find anywhere. I used Windows' search function (in the Start menu) and searched for LOG files in my ICQ folder, it found one and so I typed its name (icqPro2003a.log) in the ICQ Uninstallation dialog window, clicked Open, and it worked! (I then clicked Cancel for I did not actually want to uninstall it). Then I noticed a file called 'ICQUninstall.exe' in the same folder, so I tried it too, it seems to also be an uninstallation applicaton and works better and is simpler than 'UNWISE32.EXE.' I don't quite understand why there are two uninstallers just yet. I might get back to you on that.

Anyway, I don't seem to be able to find anything online about your specific problem... However, usually when it tells you a certain file is "locked," that means that it's in use, running. So you have to exit ICQ, ICQ Lite, and everything related to ICQ before running the uninstaller. You might aswell exit everything. And make sure no known applications and/or anything with the letters I-C-Q in it isn't running, and if it is, "End Task" it.
