Question I was supposed to undergo circumcision, but the blood test before that shown my sugar level to be 212. It was a random test done after food. Rest all parameters are in normal range including BT/CT. The doctor is asking to take diabetes medication or exercise to control blood sugar. Do you think it is bad enough to prevent surgery? I am 25, Male.
Answer Diabetes is diagnosed if your blood glucose levels are 200 mg/dl or higher, regardless of whether or not you have eaten prior to the test. Normal is in the mid to low 100s after a meal. I would suggest taking another test without having eaten, but if your blood sugar goes above 200 at any time, you are probably diabetic, or at least prediabetic. In my opinion, surgery (especially on an area where there is normally a lot of blood loss) would be a bit too risky; it would be best to wait and take measures to bring blood glucose levels back down to a normal range. Once blood sugar is under control, surgery should be okay. Just to be safe, I would delay surgery until your doctor says your blood sugar is down to where it should be. Talk to the doctor who will be performing the circumcision to see what he thinks, as well. I hope I was able to help!
