IP Telephony - Comcast Digital Voice

Expert: Gerry Magill - 9/16/2009

Question
I currently have two phone lines from Verizon into my houses. Comcast has been offering me significant savings if I upgrade my cable service to triple play for internet, TV, and phone. I'm hesitant to switch all my phone service to cable. Would it be possible to switch just one line to Comcast Digital Voice and leave the second line with Verizon? If so, do I need to involve Verizon service tech in the switch?

Answer
Your telephone line from Verizon is physically seperate from you Comcast cable. This means you can continue to keep both lines from Verizon for a trial period. Simply forward one or more lines to your new Comcast phone number. If you notice problems you can remove the call forwarding feature manually youself at any time. Contact Verizon and ask them for the service code to forward your phone to another number. It will be something like dialing *24. To remove forwarding again it will be as simple as dialing something like #24.

If you like Comcasts service after one month you can ask them to port your phone numbers over to their service.

I am pretty sure you won't switch back to Verizon.

Regards,
Gerry
