IT and Business Architecture/Touch Screen Integrated Wireless Keyboard and Trackball Mouse.

Dear Royden

Is it possible to design and construct a Touch Screen Integrated Wireless Keyboard and Trackball Mouse for Desktops, Servers, Workstations Computers which run on Windows, Linux etc OS ?.

The Keyboard and Mouse GUI interface will be similar to a Smartphone / Cellphone or TV Remote control portable Device.

If No, what are the Limitations for the Design and Construction ?.

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

These solutions existed over 20 years ago when touch screens first came into existence. The mouse/track ball has been around since the mid 80's and the advent of the Graphical User Interface.  Originally this combination first appeared in 1st generation Unix boxes at the advent of the CAD/CAM solutions late 80's.  There is no magic to it. Apple (which is essential a closed Unix environment) is became strong in theis area for graphical arts in early 90's and did SGI (Silcon Graphics).

Today most systems went one way or the other, either mouse/trackball or screen enabled. It was the depth of responsiveness which finally separate the two again. If you needed many hundreds (or thousands) of responses per inch or second then the mouse was preferred. It it became textual or low density (i.e.: Tablet games) then the touch screen was preferred. Although there still are hybrid for specific purposes.
