Question Thank you in advance Laurence for any assistance you might provide.
My husband and I are trying to lay the groundwork to eventually move to Iceland but it's incredibly difficult to receive responses from companies about work in an email. I'm sure you know :-)
We are planning to visit shortly, but I'm wondering if you have any contacts for work there in banking/investment or IT fields. I'm looking to network as much as possible so that I might interview for opportunities while I'm there.
Also, do you know of any organizations that offer Icelandic courses for foreigners either locally or over the internet?
I appreciate all of the wisdom that you can provide.
Sincerely, Jen
Answer Dear Jennifer,
I'm afraid I do not have any contacts in banking or IT.
You don't say which country you are in so I can't really comment on whether you might be able to get a working visa. Do you think you have skills which Icelanders don't have? I'm not sure whether a company would employ someone who doesn't speak Icelandic when they could employ a local person.
You can learn Icelandic at the university in Reykjavik. But, for now, you can learn online at http://icelandic.hi.is/.
