Question
Could you by any chance tell me how to pronounce these names in English?

HAKON MAR ORVARSSON
BJORN THORODDSEN

I believe Bjorn is said like BEE - YORN right?

Answer
Dear Darris,

In fact there are some accents missing from your names:
Hákon Már Örvarsson (he's a chef, by the way)
Björn Thoroddsen (he's a guitarist)

'á' is 'ow' as in 'owl'
'ö' is uh as in German 'Möbel'.
'r' is slightly trilled
's' is an s sound, not a /z/ sound
'j' is a /y/ sound like in 'yellow'

So Björn  is more like b-yearn than b-yawn.

Laurence
