Subject: teaching french in Iceland

Question
I have graduated from University in Poland. I have my Bachelor's degree in Teaching French as a Foreign Language. I am thinking seriously about moving to Island where I would like to work as a french teacher. Do you know what are my chances of finding a teaching position in a state school in Iceland? Thank you for any information.

Answer
Hi Aleksandra,

I'm afraid I don't really know. I would imagine that you would need to speak at least some Icelandic first, to get a paid job as a state school teacher, but I don't know. I would have thought that being a teaching assistant (maybe voluntary at first) would be more likely without Icelandic.

Why don't you email a school and ask?
Here is the website for one secondary school. They do teach French.

Good luck.
Laurence
