Question Hi! We are taking our first RV trip (very clueless & getting nervous) from Denver to Yellowstone and back thru Idaho (or vice versa)at the end of June. Have always wanted to check out Idaho, due to the same weather / outdoor opportunities as Colorado. Do you know of a certain direction we should have in mind, and what side trips we should take ? We have two girls, ages 10 & 11. I heard that there are some falls (higher than Niagara Falls ?) somewhere in SE corner of Idaho ?? Any other activities / sites not to be missed would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have RV'd..any advice on a day or two in Yellowstone ? Tetons ?
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer,
Ani
Answer Denver to Yellowstone should be easy going through Cheyenne and turning north at Rawlins and going through Grand Teton National Park, then north on into Yellowstone.
When it's time to go home, go out through West Yellowstone, turn North on 191, then West on 267 to Ennis, Montana. Turn into town and head out on 287 to Virginia City and Nevada City. Your girls should enjoy these two towns. Stay on 287 when done, heading to Twin Bridges, then turn South on 41 to Dillon, Montana. Hop on to I-15, heading south to Idaho.
At "Sage Junction" turn right going west. Rexburg will be on the left, but you'll want to go west. It will take you through the central desert, a town called Howe, and then when that road ends, turn right to Arco. In the center of Arco, turn left and go to Craters of the Moon Park.
When done there, keep heading southwest through Carey and Shoshone where you'll turn left to Twin Falls. Here is where the Shoshone Falls park is. It's located just east of town. When you are in Twin Falls, the highway turns into Blue Lakes Blvd - watch for Falls Avenue and turn left and follow the signs.
When you return to Falls avenue after viewing the falls, turn left, follow Falls Ave. to Addison, turn left again, it takes you to Hiway 50, turn left there - it takes you to I-84 where you turn right.
There's a turnoff taking you directly to Salt Lake City and you can select the best route home from there.
Take a look at a map to highlight this route to see if it works for you. It takes you to two great Ghost Towns, Craters of the Moon, and Shoshone Falls. Let me know if I can be of any help with any of these!
