About Trey Tarrant Expertise I can answer questions about plant identification, plant care, plant pest management, landscaping, and general gardening questions. Please post a picture of the plant you wish to identify, if possible. If you say something like, "I've got this plant and it's green with long leaves and white flowers" and do not include a picture, chances are I won't be able to help you. I may not be able to help with plants that are not grown in the Southeast/ Eastern US, but you're welcome to try me.

Question Several years ago I purchased a plant in NC. Nursery staff thought it was called Devil's walking Stick but weren't sure. I've since determined it is not. I've had it 3 years. It's 2 to 2 1/2 feet high, upright in growth. Stems are crooked, switching back every inch or so. No thorns. Stems are a pretty fresh green tinged with pink. When it has leaves they are pink and green. Leaves fall off and interesting shape of stems are seen. I've never seen another plant like it
Answer Based on your description, it sounds like what you have is indeed a devil's walking stick, or devil's backbone (not to be confused with Arailia spinosa, a tree native to the Southeast and also called a devil's walking stick)..
