About Trey Tarrant
Expertise
I can answer questions about plant identification, plant care, plant pest management, landscaping, and general gardening questions. Please post a picture of the plant you wish to identify, if possible. If you say something like, "I've got this plant and it's green with long leaves and white flowers" and do not include a picture, chances are I won't be able to help you. I may not be able to help with plants that are not grown in the Southeast/ Eastern US, but you're welcome to try me.

Question
Hi Trey,

My name is Teddy Kesting-Handly and I'm an expert in the entomology category. My question is regarding my Passion Vine. I breed butterflies and have breed on this vine, both the Zebra Longwing and the Gulf Fritillary. I have done some research and can't figure out what this plant is. I have attached two photos of the different stages of the leaves and a tendril it has on it. I have had it since June and it has not bloomed although it has been in sunlight and is now as tall as my ceiling (again) although I trimmed it back at least twice a month. The other weird thing about it is that it had these large empty pods on it at one point. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer this. I know how many questions you get a day!

Answer
Hi there, I'm a bit confused by your question.  You call it a "Passion Vine" and I'm pretty sure that's what it is (I would have  called it a passion flower vine, Pasiflora sp.), but then you say you don't know what it is. (?)

If you're wondering why its not flowering, its probably because it is indoors and is not getting enough light to flower.

If you're trying to narrow it down to a certain species, I probably can't help.

If you can clarify I might be able to help further.

Trey
