About Trey Tarrant Expertise I can answer questions about plant identification, plant care, plant pest management, landscaping, and general gardening questions. Please post a picture of the plant you wish to identify, if possible. If you say something like, "I've got this plant and it's green with long leaves and white flowers" and do not include a picture, chances are I won't be able to help you. I may not be able to help with plants that are not grown in the Southeast/ Eastern US, but you're welcome to try me.

Question I've had this "corn" plant indoors for a good time then decided to put it outdoors. It's been doing very well & recently bloomed a stalk of balled flowers that open up at night & remain closed durung the day. The flowers give off a strong sweet odor that literally fills the backyard & inside of my home. I've been to the local nursery & they have never heard of a cane plant flowering like this. I would like to propogate more plants like this one. Can you identify the plant & tell me how I might do this? Thanks so much, Ginny
Answer That doesn't sound like the plant that is usually called a "corn plant" which is a kind of dracaena, so I'm not sure what it might be without a picture.
Most cane-type plants will propagate easily by stem cuttings. Cut sections of cane with at least 2 or three complete nodes and lay them flat in potting soil buried about half deep. Keep them warm and moist in bright light and they should root in a few weeks.
Another way to propagate is air layering. Its a little more work, but has a higher probability of success. See link below.
