About Trey Tarrant
Expertise
I can answer questions about plant identification, plant care, plant pest management, landscaping, and general gardening questions. Please post a picture of the plant you wish to identify, if possible. If you say something like, "I've got this plant and it's green with long leaves and white flowers" and do not include a picture, chances are I won't be able to help you. I may not be able to help with plants that are not grown in the Southeast/ Eastern US, but you're welcome to try me.

Experience

Identifying Unknown Plants - what is this plant

Expert: Trey Tarrant - 9/27/2008

Question
what kind of plant is this? All I know is that it does quite well in partial shade and that it is supposed to bloom.

Answer
That's a mandavilla, a tropical vine.  It blooms portportional to how much light it gets.  Since it doesn't have any blooms in that picture, it may be because its in too much shade.  As long as it gets some sun, it will grow, but may not bloom very much.  I don't know where you live, but be aware that it will will not withstand a freeze, or even perhaps temperatures in the 30s.

Trey
