About Trey Tarrant Expertise I can answer questions about plant identification, plant care, plant pest management, landscaping, and general gardening questions. Please post a picture of the plant you wish to identify, if possible. If you say something like, "I've got this plant and it's green with long leaves and white flowers" and do not include a picture, chances are I won't be able to help you. I may not be able to help with plants that are not grown in the Southeast/ Eastern US, but you're welcome to try me.

This flower appeared in our backyard after Hurricane IKE. I have not been able to identity it. I have included a picture taken with my cell phone. It is not very clear but I hope it will help. I was told that it belongs to the Lillie Family. At the end of each red strand appears to be pollen.
Answer Here in Alabama, that's called a Surprise Lilly, though there are other plants that are called that too. The botanical name is Lycoris radiata. It is called a surprise lilly because the leaves occur at a different time than the flowers. If I'm not mistaken, you should see the grass-like leaves come up sometime soon, after the flower is gone.
