Identity Theft Prevention - Can my identity be stolen

Expert: Yan Ross - 5/21/2009

Question
I would just like to ask this, i ordered a dvd and on the sticker on the front was my telephone and name (not my full name with middle names) can this information be used without ringing me to steal my identity.

Answer
Davester,

Thanks for your question.

It is unlikely that the information you listed could be used to steal your identity without additional information.

You are correct to be vigilant about ways in which elements of your identity could be compromised, but your name and telephone number alone are most likely in the public domain already (phone book, for instance).

I hope that helps.

If you have further questions, you may submit a follow-up.

Good luck!
