Question
We are planning a June vacation to Chicago (from Iowa) and would like to stay in a lakefront property in that area.  Are there any lakefront rentals within reason?  We have visited Chicago in the past and chose to go back to that area again this year for vacation.  In the past we have hit all the "touristy" stuff like museums, Six Flags, etc.  Anything that you would recommend to a family with 15 and 11 year old girls?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Vickie,

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been out of work sick, and, thus, not near my computer. If the following information is not specific enough, please feel free to ask me further questions. Here goes:

1) Try Chicago's two Bed & Breakfast linkup services for a reasonable rental for your stay. Bed and Breakfast Chicago (312/951-0085) and The Heritage Bed & Breakfast Registry (312/857-0800).

2) If you've done a lot of the permanent "touristy" things, you might want to check out some of the many festivals and other summer events that Chicagoans look forward to. The city's special events page is:
http://www.ci.chi.il.us/SpecialEvents/

3) You might want to visit some of Chicago's ethnic neighborhoods--to wander around, check out the sights, sounds, and smells, and to sample some great food! Greektown is just west of the Loop, Little Italy/"Taylor Street" is just Southwest of the Loop, Chinatown is south of the Loop (there's even a red 'L' line stop at Chinatown), and Andersonville (Swedish and Middle Eastern) is further north at Clark & Foster.

If there are particular types of activities or dining you'd like to know more about, please ask!

Best wishes,

Sharon Woodhouse
