Question
Hi there I have been in this country for a very long time now I have decided to become a US citizen  prior to 2003 I would file my taxes every few years never thinking of the consequences that would affect me today my taxes since then are and have been filed,my ignorance has plaed a big role also I consulted an attorney he told me that I would have to file from when I started working 1980 and his charge would be 2500.00 to help with naturalization proceedings.

Answer
In order to show "good moral character", required for the naturalization application to be approved, all applicable taxes should be paid. You should see a good accountant about how to accomplish this. General information about naturalization is here: www.h1b1.com/citizenship.htm
