Question
Hi, I am currently in US on L1B expiring on Sep 2013 through company A. My wife is also in US on L1B expiring on Jul 2013 through Company A. Can I apply for L2 visa and at the same time keep my L1 status till need arises for me to move to L2 status. If so, can I apply for L2 directly or do we have to go through company A.
Thank you for your time....

Answer
Dear Krish:
L2 is dependent visa signed by the dependent, hence can be filed by you.  However, since one can only have one visa status - you would lose L1 status as soon as you get L2 approved.
