Question
My green card is expired and I want to apply for my citizenship do I have to renew my green card first before applying for my citizenship

Answer
Hi Gloria,

Yes, I believe you have to renew your green card before your citizenship application can be approved.  USCIS officer can, in his or her discretion, waive this requirement but they rarely do.  If you bring your tax return showing that you have very little money and you are supporting children or other relatives, the USCIS officer will be more likely to waiver this requirement for you.
