Immigration Issues/Canada Tourist visa

Question
Hello,
My mother would be traveling to Canada to attend a wedding in August 2014 from India. Can she apply for her single entry tourist visa(6 months validity) now(that is around 10 months before the travel date) in India? Does the 6 months clock start from the day the visa is applied/granted or from the proposed date of travel to Canada(mostly end of July..a week before the actual wedding)?

Thanks

Answer
Dear Riya,

Thanks for your inquiry.

It is recommended to submit the visitor visa application 2 to 3 months before the intended departure date because processing delays may occur if a medical examination, an interview or additional documents are required.

Single entry visitor visa(s) cannot be extended nor can it be used for multiple entries to Canada. Applicant must arrive in Canada on or before the expiry period which shows on the visitor visa. If visitor visa not being used within the validity period and an applicant still would like to travel to Canada, he/she must submit a new application for a visitor visa and a new assessment will be done by the Visa Officer.

Multiple visitor visa application is an option!

Regards,
Ravi
