Question
Hello Mr. Hollander
I filed for Adjustment of status based on marriage to a US citizen. We went for the interview in the local USCIS office (Hartford: CT) the interview went fine but I was told that since my name background check was not complete they wont be able to give me my Green card nor would they stamp my passport
It's been more then three months now and still haven't heard from them so my question is Do you know how long does it take for background checks or should I take legal help

Thank you

Answer
A lawyer can not make agency checks go quicker. Some people's checks are clear on the day of interview and others have taken more than a year. You should make an infopass appt at www.uscis.gov and go in and ask about case once a month or so.

Robert
