Question
I have immigrated to usa and hold green card since 17th may 2004
I intend to return to india in april 05 for my sons marriage and some other important jobs

My querry is how long MAXIMUM I can stay in India as per green card current regulations

Can i extend my stay and up to what time

Will the stay in USA of about 11 months from may 04 to april 05 count for the purpose of reckoning the qualifying period of minimum 50%time ie two and half years FOR CITIZENSHIP or it will b washed out and we will have to start a fresh for qualifying period  

Answer
You can stay out up to one year at a time. If you want more, you can file a reentry permit which will alow up to 2 years. If you stay out more than a year with the permit you will have to start the qualfying period over for citizenship.
