Immigration Issues/J1 to H1B

Question
Hi,

I'm currently on a J1 in my Academic Training period working for a company. As I was subject to the two year home residency requirement I have obtained a waiver from USCIS in June. My H1B petition (consular processing) has also being approved by USCIS. Now I wanted to know if I can go to a different consulate (H1B petition has a different consulate notification in India) say Canada and get the H1B stamp to activate my H1B status ?

Thank you for the wonderful service !

Regards,
Suraj

Answer
You can try and schedule an appointment there but it is discretionary with any consulate except your home country. They may not even allow scheduling a visa appointment and they may let you interview but decide that it would be better to refer you to your home country where they can better investigate your credentials.

Regards,

Robert
