Immigration Issues/Marriage in a third country

Question
Hello,

A woman who is a foreign student in Singapore wants to get married with a U.S. citizen in Singapore. After the marriage, his husband will file a petition for her. Will the woman have an interview at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore? Will she have to go back to her country for an interview? She was told that an interview in a country other than that of birth would be easier. Is it true?

Thank you very much.

Answer
The Embassy in her country is required to interview her. An Embassy in any other country has the discretion to interview or to send her to the Embassy in her home country. Normally, the other Embassy claims to be too busy with interviews of its own citizens, but it does not hurt to request it. Some Embassies are more difficult than others.

Regards,

Robert
