Question
Hi Mr Arora,

I am a Malaysian citizen.

I came to the US on an F1 visa to get an undergraduate degree.  My I20 expires in December 2006.

In June 2005, I got married to a US citizen.

I need some advice on how to go about applying for Permanent Residency.

Sincerely,
Raminder

Answer
Hi Raminder:

Your wife can sponsor you (Form I-130) and you can file adjustment of status at the same time (Form I-485). You can continue to remain in the U.S. (there is no requirement to leave the U.S.)

The following websites are helpful: http://www.h1b1.com/sponsor.htm and http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/spouselive.htm#Info1
