Question
Hello,
My wife stole someting last year. It was a stupid thing and now she regrets it. We hired a laywer and she got off with a fine. Today she had her citizenship interview and everything was fine just that they told that a supervisor must approve her application. Is there a chance that she may be denied her citizenship because of that? If yes, what can she do?
Thank you
john

Answer
If they follow the law to a tee, they will deny the case, because a person with a criminal conviction can not show the requisite 5 years of good moral character. If they do deny it, she can apply five years after the date of conviction. They will not deport her.

If they want to be nice I suppose they could approve it.
