Immigration Issues/opt to h1b gap

Question
Hello Robert,

My opt expires June 5th.  I can find company to sponsor for my h1b but that doesn't start until Oct 1st.  I've read your previous answers on this issue but I specifically need to know if I can apply for h1b and then visitor or f1 or should I do it the other way around - first visitor visa and then h1b.  The quota for fy2006 h1b may expire soon so I'm really worried about what to do.  Thank you very much in advance.

thanks and have a great day,
-schwan

Answer
You have a 60 day grace period - the best thing to do is apply for H-1b and then if Immigration will not allow the gap for students whose opt ends before 10/1, go home from August 1, 2006 through mid September and go to Embassy and get H-1 visa stamp.

Regards,

Robert
