Expert: Ian Date: 4/23/2008 Subject: Samshed mosquitoes Risk?
Question OK well I smashed a misquitoe. it wasn't on me or anything Just resting on the chair. But I noticed blood on my right pointer finger right after smashing it. I quicky put normal hand soap on it and washed it. But I relized I had a hang nail on the same hand I washed it on (didnt use my other hand cause of a cut on it). What is the risk of hiv infection?
Answer Hi
Thanks for your question, and I can see why you are concerned. But, in this instance there is no risk of HIV transmission - there just isn't enough infected blood getting deep enough into your body to pose a risk (and the blood in the mosquito would have been neutralised by the mosquito anyway).
