i had sex with a us military guy, stationed in germany.. im in the us. had unprotected sex 2 times. i asked him his status, and he said he was clean. im stupid for believing, i got tested 2 and a half months later the test came out negative, i still cry myself to sleep for being so stupid, trusting someone i didn't know.should i get re-tested? im so scared!!!!

Thanks for the question, and I can see why you're worried. Well, the risk of catching HIV in a single 'encounter' with and infected person is around 1%, and the risk of catching another sexually transmitted disease  is actually much higher.

If your HIV test is negative at 2.5 months (so around 10 weeks) then there is a good chance you haven't been infected (most people have developed antibodies by that time if they are infected - which is what the test is looking for). But, most places recommend a final test after 12 weeks (the latest that antibodies develop).

Your testing centre will have probably mentioned this - so I would recommend one more test after 12 weeks.

But, it does sound to me that its likely you haven't been infected. I would of course always recommend using a condom, though!
