Immunology (including AIDS) - im scared!

Question
Im on a trip to asia and got persuaded into having sex with a professional, i used a condom of course but recieved oral sex without one.  Also at one point i was wearing one and when i pulled out the condom wasn't there and must have fell off when i retracted, what is the likelyhood of me contracting HIV through this? i don't have any open sores on my penis and symptoms of STDS, although a slight stinging feeling in the tip of my penis but i think this may be caused by my being in my own head! im not sure whether she was HIV positive although she did have a cough and tried kissing me on regular occasions which i did for minimum of a few seconds during the entire time.  Can you help me because i am extremely worried! thanks

Answer
Hi

Thanks for the question. Well, in the situation you describe there is a low risk of HIV (less from receiving oral sex - more from the issue with the condom). It is very low (less than 1% - one). A test is something you could consider to be sure that you aren't infected - you don't say where you live, but if in Europe or the US you could visit a testing centre and see what they advise.

As I say, this risk is low, but still a risk.

Hope this helps - feel free to send a follow up. And a general website I recommend for information about HIV is this: www.avert.org

Best wishes

Ian
