Question Dear Dr.
Im a 26 years old man and i had a sexual event with a gay men that gave me oral sex without a condom and then I receive anal wearing it. The condom brokes and IM totally scared and anxious since it happens, inclusive I have suicide thougts if i get the HIV+. I start the post exposure prophilaxis 24 hours later for 4 weeks and on week 4th i saw in my foreskin a redness and the tip is a little irritared but it doesn go away.my lips are dry and my tongue is white. I feel my neck like the glands are big. IM SO DEPRESSED AND SO ANXIOS. I can not stop crying. Are these symptoms PRIMARY HIV?
Answer Hi
Thanks for the question, and I can see why you're concerned. Well, the symptoms you describe are NOT typical of early HIV infection. It sounds like you started PEP in good time, and the risk of catching HIV from a single event with an HIV positive person is only around 1-2% (one to two).
