Question
My problem is I have everything together, except for the plotline. I spend too much time on my characters and when I do get to the plot it only sticks for a week or two before I decide to change it.It's the same frustrating cycle, and I know I can write well, obviously (papers, essays,one-shots).And other people have told me so.
My question is, how do I structure it?

Answer
The best thing to do about this is to write yourself an outline of your story. Whether it's a novel, short story, poem, ect, an outline will greatly help you. Put down the main points, a few specific scenes you want, and even pre-written pages. THen while you are writing, follow that plotline, and it is ok to modify a few things along the way if they seem better. But an outline will keep you on track.

Also, if a sudden magnificent brainwave comes over you and you have the perfect idea for a scene you think would look great in your story, write it down! just write the whole scene down on a spare peice of paper and store it, so that when you get to that point in the story, you already have it made for you. It helps a lot because brainwaves come quite randomly and are often extremely brilliant.

Hope i helped,
Adrienne
