Increasing Self-Esteem - Need a wise person

Expert: Anisa - 10/28/2009

Question
Hello Anisa,

I am 31, male, married.

I have been observing myself for the past several months. I realized that sometimes, especially when I am in difficult time, I feel like I need a wise person to talk about my problems and also to talk about anything. I also often think that I do not have a friend that I can trust.

This feeling strengthen after I watched the last episode of Star Trek Voyager. It is not about the Star Trek. But it is about what I saw in those episodes. The interaction between characters in Star Trek Voyager resembling things or persons that I don't have.

I do not think that I am addicted to Star Trek. I do not decorating my life with Star Trek related things.

I have tried to think about this myself. So far I conclude that I simply need a trustful friend. I have also checked that I lost contact with my old trustful-friends.

I lost contact because they seems too busy with their life.

What do you think about my situation?

Thank you,
Frans Indroyono

Answer
Hi Frans,

There is nothing wrong with your situation. It is perfectly okay to feel you need someone to trust in, someone you can talk to and confide in. Everyone needs a friend they can turn to when they need to talk or just have someone listen to. It is fine to feel this way.
