Increasing Self-Esteem - Hypoglycemia and GERD and HSP

Expert: Jurriaan Plesman, Nutritional Psychologist - 5/25/2009

Question
Hi Dr. Plesman, does GERD and HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) have anything to do with being hypoglycemic?  Or do they contribute to it?  My hunch is you will say the hypoglemia affects the GERD and HSP (if it's related).

Thanks,

Answer
Hi G,

I am not a doctor, but a Nutritional Psychologist. GERD stands for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease.  My view is that most mood disorders are due to an underlying biochemical disorder that needs to be fixed before considering "psychological" aspects. Most people with mood disorder are found to be hypoglycemic (pre-diabetic condition), but there are other conditions as well. It is explained at:

Silent Diseases and Mood Disorders at:
http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/silentdiseases.html

For treatment of GERD see:

If you have any further questions please come back.
