Increasing Self-Esteem - im ugly?

Expert: Dom Cal - 9/5/2009

Question
hi,why do people call me ugly im only a 12 year old girl and people call me a boy with 'stache' or they call me gay all i want is an honest oppinion i want to feel better about myself i hate myself 'cuz people call me ugly it makes me cry to sleep

Answer
Aminah,

You are not ugly, people can be cruel at your age and say mean things just to put you down, but that doesn't mean that they are true.  In most cases the people saying these things are most likely jealous of you in any number of different ways, and use these insults to make themselves feel better.  I know it's a hard thing to do, but you can't let these insults get to you, the only person who matters in this is you, and how you feel about yourself; don't let the things that other people say about you affect how you feel.  From looking at your picture, it seems to me that many girls would kill for your hair, and I don't know where they got this idea of a "stache" from.

When people say these things they are just trying to hurt you for some reason, they're not saying it because it is true, and you must keep that in mind when dealing with this.

Thank you for the question, and sorry for the late response, I have been extremely busy the last couple of weeks.

Thanks, hope I could help!

-Dom
