Subject: Origin of Surname

Question
I am interested in my family tree. The first step is finding the origins of my surname, Naicker. I am South African of Indian decent.

Indians migrated to South Africa around 1800, most Indians worked as indentured labour. The problem I face is simililar to many where migrant names were mis-spelled or changed.

Could you please assist with the origin of the family name.

Thank you
Sharedh

Answer
Hello Sharedh,

I'm very inspired about the fact that you are taking an interest in your roots.  It is always great to hear a fellow Indian trying to know more about himself and where he comes from.

I did some research and found a very interesting web site that may be used as a starting point for your quest to find your origins.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naicker

Keep up the interest.  Please let me know if I may be able to assist in the future,

Yours,
Priyang Vyas
