Question I have been trying to find information on the surname Kissoon and Sallick, which is my father's and grandfather's surname. I am an Indian my family is from Guyana and have left India along time ago with the British. I wanted to know if this name Kissoon and Sallick is Indian in origin, I do know that allot of names have been misspelled and have been completely mangled during the migration of Indians from East to West. Hopefully you can help.
Answer Dear Rakhee,
I do get lots of queries regarding surnames. Its not very easy with the names as many were misspelled or just got mixup with the local dialect and lost its indianness.
Here Kissoon could be kishan: name derived from Lord Krishna. Very common name among Indians. Could be surname or second name of a person.
I am not sure of Sallick and can't find any Hndu name or surname that comes close to sallick except for 'mallik' or 'Shakeel' which are usually Muslim names.
