I don't think there's any meaning of Pal. Please do not get confused with English 'Pal'.
This Surname is generally from Northern India, especially with Sikh Community where it is very common. Though many from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal too have this surname but is not so common.
Even my surname is 'Pal'.
