Question
The present population of Manipur, a state in India is around 2,300,000. What could be the estimated population of this state (present geographic area) in 1500 AD?

Answer
Hi Mr Roy,

Manipur  came under the British Rule as a Princely State after the defeat in the Anglo-Manipuri  War of  1891. After  independence of  India in  1947,  the Princely State of Manipur was merged in the Indian Union on October 15,1949 and became a full-fledged State of India on the 21th January, 1972. In 1947, the total population of India was 345 million. In 1500 AD, India's population including Bangladesh and Pakistan was 90 million. So its difficult to guess the exact population of Manipur in its present geographic area in 1500 AD.

Regards,

Vani
