Question
I recently got married and I was wondering if I should have my name added to our home.  My husband owned the home before our marriage. What are the pros and cons of adding my name to the home.

Answer
There is no good answer to that question.  If the two of you intend that upon either of your deaths the other is to have the house as theirs then you should put it in joint name as Husband and WIfe.  If you have a prenuptial agreement that says each of your list of assets remain yours individually then you would not want to do that, but most prenuptial agreements usually does not prohibit such transfers.  It just all depends on the future intent of the two of you. Another consideration is estate planning to the extent your estate total value is now over $2 million then you may not want to do such a thing because you each need assets held individually to fund separate trusts if the trusts need funding.  THere are just lots of questions that need answering before a solid final answer is possible.  JDH
