AboutDru David Expertise I can answer just about any question or give advice about the city of Indianapolis and its surrounding suburbs. I'd be happy to provide restaurant, hotel, and attraction recommendations based on what you're looking for.
Experience I've lived here all my life, I've worked in the hospitality and tourism area downtown for several years. I'm very familiar with where things are in the city and what to do.
Question Planning a weekend trip to Indy for the 500. Need to know where to stay and the best places to party for the weekend. Just want to enjoy the race and have a fun filled time. Any reccomendations would be appreciated. Thanks
Answer Room availability will probably play a big part in what I recommend, as I'm sure a vast majority of hotels are either sold out or raise their prices to unreal levels. It's not uncommon to see $300-600/night with a minimum three-night stay for even mid-level hotels in the city.
Having that said, I usually recommend that people stay at downtown hotels or on the northside. Downtown Indianapolis is very clean and safe, and there's a ton of things to do.
The northside, especially the suburban areas like Castleton, Fishers, and Carmel, are all very nice too. From there you're looking at about a 35 minute drive to Speedway.
As far as entertainment, it would probably depend on where you stay. The "Wholesale District" downtown has a lot of night clubs but can get qutie hectic when there are big events like the Indy 500. The Broad Ripple village is about 10 minutes north of downtown and is another cool place that I always recommend, it's not as touristy or chaotic as downtown can be on the weekends but can still be busy and fun. Be sure to check out "The Vogue" if you go!
I hope that helps... if you have a list narrowed down of places that have availabiltiy, just let me know and I can provide specific suggestions.
