Question This occurs in only 1 room of our house. In my daughters bedroom there is a strange almost chemical smell that only occurs when it is warm outside and the sun beats on that side of the house. This is a second level room, the exterior is brick, however directly below her room is the gas meter. We've had it checked several times, there was a small leak detected via soap test and fixed. The smell continues when the weather conditions appear as stated above. The smell doesn't occur in the room below hers but there is no window in that room. Maybe a gas is seeping through the interior walls and in the room via the window casement? We are puzzled and alarmed. Any ideas?
Answer Gas has no odor except that of rotten eggs from a doping agent so you can detect it by odor. Chemical smell is likely either new construction OR that side of the home is reaching condensation point inside the walls. Do your brick walls have weep holes and are the clogged? These are small holes in the exterior of the wall.
