Question Hi,
I have a forced air furnace in my basement. We have a suite where the furnace is and we find that her smells go through the vents and come up to our upstairs living area and its really bothersome. What sort of filters can I use to minimize or eliminate the smells from downstairs? I heard of ION filters...
Also, we have to cold air vent returns...same goes with those 2...her smells go through them...when she's cooking, her perfume, etc....is there something i could be in the 2 vents to reduce her smells?
Thanks!
Answer I have not heard anything about any effective filters for such odor removal. Purfume is especially hard to filter out. You will hear many claims about many filters but to date I cannot verify any that work for odor.
Try making certain she using vents when cooking. Also, you can try a high end filter with MERV rating of 10 or better. Any filter with the same MERV rating as another is the same. ignore other claims. For starts, I would try 3m Filtrete Purple one. That is MERV 10, or 11, not certain. But if you can find, especialy online, any with higher MERV number, use it you think it may work.
