Question We have just moved into a older home (1980's) The main ac unit is in the attic. Throughout the house are "uptake vents" but the APPEARS to be be no main fiter location? Any Ideas? P.S. I have opened the unit in the attic and all I found were the interior coils but no place for a filter.
Answer Check inside the unit where the fan blower is located. Usually the filter is located wither in a plenum (metal box) attached to the unit or inside the main housing itself. Now you may not have a filter in place. if you do not have filter grills (the return ducts that move air TO the unit), then you should have on near or on the main cabinet.
Sometimes the filters are held in place with a thick wire inside the cabinet. This may be missing.
You can look up the manufacturer online for an owners manual.
