Question
Hi Sarah,
I'm Shweta, planning to have a baby soon, I'm 31 now & wanting to know how much more time do I have to have a baby. My husband n I have been working in 2 different cities & are now planning to set up something together, soon. We conceived unsuccessfully in 2005, when my fallopian tube had to be removed due to an ectopic pregnancy. But, he says that he wants some more time to start a family. please advice me  on any tests for determining how much time do we have to start a family, like a follicle count or egg count test. thanks- Shweta!

Answer
Hello Shweta,

If you're 31, then you still have plenty of time left to have a baby. I have read that egg quality doesn't start to decline until after 35.  How long have you been trying?  You may want to ask your doctor about monitoring your ovulation via ultrasound, so that they can check the size and count of your follicles which can help improve your chances by timing correctly.  You can also have bloodwork done to check your hormone levels, such as FSH and estradiol, to make sure everything is in order.  Talk to your ob/gyn and the can advise you of what to do next.  I'm sorry to hear of your loss in 2005.  I also had to have one fallopian tube removed, but was able to conceive twice with only one tube, so your chances shouldn't be lowered too much.  It will just depend on which side you ovulate each month.  Best wishes!

Please be reminded that I am not a physician, and my expertise comes only from personal experience and my own research.  My advice should not take the place of care from your doctor.
