Question
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and respond to my question.  I am currently seeing an RE and have been ttc #1 for 3 years.  I've done many cycles with clomid and a combination of clomid and follistim.  I typically end up with one size-wise mature egg, and a borderline estradiol level.  This time around we are going to try just follistim and no clomid.  My question - what is the typical number of days that a woman is on the follistim?  I will be monitored and the protocol tweaked as need be, but I am just wondering what is typical and if you could provide me with a time frame of what to expect (i.e. approximate number of days on the FSH prior to taking the HCG trigger and IUI).
Thank you again,
Amy

Answer
Hi Amy,

My average patient starts Follistim around the third day of her cycle and takes it for about a week.  Monitoring includes blood tests and ultrasounds, every few days, until follicles are close to mature, at which time they start to come in several days in a row.

Once we have ripe, mature follicles, I use hCG injection to induce the follicles to ovulate, and IUI is done 36 hours later (at the time of ovulation).

I hope this answers your questions - Good luck!
