Infertility/Fertility - Endometrin tablets

Expert: Edward Joseph Ramirez, MD, FACOG - 9/29/2008

Question
Dear Dr. Ramirez,

I am taking Endometrin vaginal progesterone tablets for an IVF cycle.  I have endometriosis and am wondering if this medication will have any effect on the endometriosis or will increase it in any way.  Thank you.

Answer
Hello Ms. Conlon,

No the medication will not affect the endometriosis.  In fact, Progesterone is used as a long-term treatment for endometriosis.  It is essential as part of the IVF treatment so keep using it.

Sincerely,

Edward J. Ramirez, M.D., FACOG
