Question Hi, my name is lilly. I am 21 years old and I'm from oregon. Me and my husband have been ttc for about a year and I can't seem to get pregnant. I was on depo provera from 2004-2006 and never had my period. I got on lutera right away so my periods came back normal.but I completely got off birth control in july of 2007 and my periods were very irregular until the last 5 months but now they are becoming irregular. I was wondering if depo might be a reason for all this. Or if I might not be ovulating. Any advice on what I should do would be very appreciated!
Answer Hello Lily from Oregon,
If you are continuing to have irregular cycles, then it is an indication that the ovaries are not functioning correctly. This could certainly inhibit your chances of pregnancy. You need to undergo evaluation to find out exactly why your ovaries are not working as there are several possibilities. I would recommend that you see a gynecologist or fertility specialist for this evaluation. You may then need some form of fertility medication to correct the problem.
Sincerely,
Edward J. Ramirez, M.D., FACOG
