Question QUESTION: i have had two babies to another boyfriend but now i am marrying some who is great now he has never got anyone pregnant once but it was a tube pregnancy. before i meet him i had an abortion just three months ago and the other day i got my period on 28 of the 10. what i want to know is how much longer should we wait before he should get tested I've had kids he hasn't and he was with someone for three years they didn't use any thing to stop them having a child she only fell pregnant once am i worrying for nothing oh and he was smoking pot when he was with her he doesn't now i just want someone else tips
ANSWER: Hello Amanda from Australia,
You mentioned that he has been responsible for a pregnancy in the past, but it was a tubal pregnancy (called an ectopic). This abnormal pregnancy was not due to him, but due to abnormal factors in his partner.
So, it is possible that the reason there has not been a pregnancy recently, with his previous partner, is that there was something wrong with her and not him. Therefore, I would recommend that you not worry for now, and try for pregnancy for at least a 12 month period of time. If nothing happens after that, then you will both need to undergo evaluation.
Hopefully, that won't be the case, and you will be successful.
Sincerely,
Edward J. Ramirez, M.D., FACOG

Answer Hello Again,
Everything that you mentioned is certainly a very good idea. The smoking and drugs will definitely affect your ability to become pregnant, and/or increase your chances of miscarriage. Once your cycles restart and are normal again, you can start trying again if that is what you want. If you are not already doing so, I would recommend that you take a prenatal vitamin.
