Infertility/Fertility - Adenomyosis and Pregnancy

Expert: Rebecca Carte - 5/26/2006

Question
Dear Rebecca,
I would like to know if there is any treatment for diffuse adenomyosis and thereafter try to get pregnant. Have you heard or do you know any success stories of patients who have overcome this problem and have been able to have a baby.

Please do let me know.
Also Thanks so much for your response in advance.

Ramya

Answer
Adenomyosis may well lower fertility but it is not impossible to become pregnant or carry a baby to term if you have adenomyosis.  In many cases, adenomyosis isn't even found until a patient is having a c-section or the like.  Pregnancy is possible.

For those who do suffer fertility issues, there are medications such as Lupron (a GnRH antagonist) which have been successful in achieving pregnancy in adenomyosis patients.  In severe cases, fertility is harder to achieve than in the milder cases.  Don't give up hope because it can and very well may happen!  Find a very good doctor!
