15 years ago at the age of 22 I was diagnosed with having an ovarian cyst. The gynaecologist operated and removed a large cyst plus my left falopian tube and ovary.
I have been trying for 2 years for a child. I recently had a laparoscopy and dye test. They said I had some adhesions causing the tube and ovary to be slightly stuck but the tube proved to be patent. Can you tell me how likely it is that I will fall pregant naturally with one tube. My partner is 45 years old. He is a heavy drinker and smokes about 10 cigarettes a day.
Thank you for any help you can give.
Regards.
Susan Smith
Answer Hi Susan,
Smoking and drinking may have an adverse effect on your partner's sperm. You should consider having his semen analyzed.
There are MANY factors affecting your fertility -- not just the fact that you may be working off of one side. Further, you may be at an increased risk for having an ectopic pregnancy (but I'm sure the doc who did your laparoscopy told you this). Did the doctor clear up the adhesions at the time of surgery? I sure hope he/she tried....
At your age, you really should consider seeing a qualified reproductive endocrinologist for a rapid fertility workup and possible treatment. Age can make a HUGE difference in who gets pregnant and who doesn't, as can the specialization of the fertility doctor you see.
